Improve vocabulary and help feed the Poor!

The FreeGrain website went live in early October, and has already proven a success. During the first month and half since its lauch, the total donation has reached two-and-a-half billion grains of rice, enough to feed more than 125,000 people.

The concept is simple: Answer a set of questions, testing your proficiency of English – and thereby improving your vocabulary – and 10 each correct answer is rewarded with 10 grains of rice, not for you, but for feeding the hungry. The player´s gain in not in grain, but in knowledge – undoubtedly in the English language, hopefully also in the hunger equation.

The grains earned by the players are paid for by the sponsors of the www.freerice.com website, acquired and distributed by the World Food Organization (WFO). The sponsors get their logos profiled. The Free Rice web is a non-profit project run by www.poverty.com

FreeGrain has become an instant success, in early November ranked as the world´s most popular humanitarian website. It also has more than 100 communities listed on FaceBook, and with a notable presence on YouTube.

On YouTube, the WFP has launched another competition: Hunger Bytes. The world´s video-makers are invited to unleash their creativity and produce the funniest, strangest or edgiest 30 or 60 second video about hunger.
